Aventador Drop Top Pics

That’s right, the next show stopper at the Geneva Auto Show will be the Lamborghini Aventador drop top.  This super car sports race car looks, cool open roof, and true Lamborghini attitude.  It’s not just looks, like any Lamborghini, this power house delivers 60 second times in the neighborhood of 2.8 seconds, thanks to a v12 mill.

The pictures below of the Aventador are known as the Aventador J, but also known as the Unica throughout super car rumor mills.  So, if the leaked photos are any indication, this will be a true roadster, no roof to speak of.  Don’t consider driving the Aventador on any wet roads or snowy days, this is a summer time flat asphalt ride all the way.

Aventador, All New Lambo Pushing 700hp

Lamborghini has always been known for their high horsepower pavement ripping works of art, this only makes it more difficult for them to raise the bar.  Their answer is the Aventador, a 700 horsepower V12 capable of doing 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and doing so in a recognizable canvas.

My first impression of the Aventador is that it looks like a stretched Gallardo, with slightly more aggressive lines.  I imagine the larger wheel base and stretched appearance lends itself to a more stable ride at max speed, somewhere around 217 mph.  Also, thanks to advancements in weight positioning, the 6.5 liter engine seated over the rear tires allows for breakneck 0-60 times of 2.9 seconds.

The Aventador comes in a variety of color combinations and options, including 2 solid paint options of either black, yellow, or optional white.  In addition, there are 4 different metallic colors, 4 pearl orange effects, and 3 different matte finishes.

How much does the Lamborghini Aventador cost?  If you have to ask, it doesn’t matter, especially considering all 2011 models have already been spoken for.  Ok, if you must know, the 2011 Aventador has a list price of $387,000.  Get in line now for the 2012 model year and bring your check book.

2012 Nissan GT-R

I wouldn’t necesarily call 485 horsepower super car material, but the upcoming revamp of the GT-R or American bred Skyline is sure to please.  Consider it tweaked to higher standards and a stand out amongst import super car fans, who long for the Skyline available in Japan.  With more horsepower, better aerodynamics, and some extra functional tweaks to appearance.

First of all, what makes the 2012 Nissan GT-R so amazing as a sports car is it’s ability to perform like a race car.  At high speeds the GT-R puts the body lines to work, with functional aerodynamics.  This allows the GT-R to handle better, accelerate faster, and exit the lines on curves like a pro.

Hyper Blue is the color of choice for demo models of the 2012 GT-R being shown off to European countries.  Starting early next year, 2011, we can hopefully see some of these beauties on American show room floors.  In addition, don’t expect a big price jump because of all these improvements, Nissan is shooting for a low $80,000 price tag like the 2011 GT-R models.

C-X75 Electric Super Car by Jaguar

Jaguar has released more information on their all electric super car, known as the C-X75.  Debuted at the Paris Auto Show, the all new slim lined super car promises heart stopping acceleration, to the tune of 0-60 in 3.4 seconds.  So let’s look at how Jaguar achieved supercar performance from an all electric vehicle, a goal trying to be reached by major car manufacturers, like the Lamborghini Electric Super Car and the 700 HP Porsche Hybrid.

[box type=”info”]C-X75 contains a 200 hp motor, no wait, it contains 4 of them![/box]

The C-X75 is powered by four separate motors, each providing the go juice to a single wheel, to the tune of 200 horse power.  So, if my math skills from 2nd grade still hold up, that means the Jaguar electric super car is pumping out a total of 800 hp.  Even more amazing is the total torque of over 1,100 lb ft.

Although the Jaguar C-X75 is considered all electric super goodness, it does have the ability to extend it’s electric only range via the use of 2 gasoline turbines.  The turbines produce enough electricity for the C-X75 to travel over 550 miles.  None of the power to the car ever comes directly from the gasoline turbines, rather the power produced goes to the batteries in the Jag and then to each wheel.  Without the aid of the gas turbines, the C-X75 is only capable of about 68 miles.

With the speeds this super car is capable of, the all electric max distance may take just 20 mins to run out of juice. Ha!  Count me in.

Atom V8 Pictures

Ariel Atom has released information on an all new Atom, powered by a small V8.  Perhaps you haven’t heard about the super light weight frame of a car, typically powered by motorcycle engines, and perhaps you’ve been living in a cave.  Atom stormed the scene a few years back with a debut of an affordable car that was capable of producing performance figures comparable to Lamborghini and Ferrari.  They have now taken the next step and built a car running on a throaty, yet tiny V8 engine and calling it the Ariel Atom 500.

[box type=”info”]The Atom 500 will be capable of 0-60 in under 3 seconds and 0-100 in under 7![/box]

The tiny one seater car will have a V8 capable of producing 500 horsepower.  This may not be an impressive figure, until you consider this will be the highest power-to-weight ratio car ever produced.  That can be interpreted as scary fast!

The V8 engine itself in the small Atom is a work of art, with displacement only at 2.4 liters.  The Atom’s V8 will be super charged and hit the 500 horsepower mark at around 10,000 RPMs.  Ariel reports that the combination will allow the Atom 500 to do 0-60 in less than  3 seconds and a startling 0-100 in under 7.  Again, these performance numbers are capable because of the massive hp to weight ratio.

Ariel announced the Atom 500 will only be built in limited quantities, so the thriving Atom community will be clamoring for a taste.  Although research and development of the Atom 500 began back in 2007, no official release date has been announced.
