Bamboo Concept Car

[ad#Google Adsense]The Bamboo Concept car pictured above was created by Yodogawa, a Japanese metalworking firm.  As unbelievable as it may seem, the manufacturer actually hopes to one day sell this car to sane buyers, looking to save the world with green materials.  The car, and I use that term loosely, was created almost entirely of traditional materials, mainly bamboo and paper.

The barely capable Meguru, which sets on 3 wheels and appears to be held together by hopes and dreams, utilizes a lithium ion battery for power.  It’s an all electric vehicle (EV), which has a maximum traveling distance of 25 miles before needing charged.  Furthermore, it has a top speed of only 25 miles per hour, which in my opinion would mean a death wish if traveling much faster.

I’m not sure which is more crazy, the fact that the Japanese hope to sell the Meguru or that they are expecting to get $10,000 for it.  You be the judge and view the picture of the Bamboo Concept Car Meguru.

Volvo C30 Concept Car Pics

[ad#Google Adsense]Volvo is at it again with building a super cool concept car, the C30 is nothing shy of the direct off spring of a high performance racer.  Just shy of 400 horsepower, this light weight hatch back has what it takes to tear up the corners and blow the doors off of competitors in the straight away.  It’s making everyone take a second look at whats coming down the pipe from Volvo.

Dubbed the Volvo Polestar C30, this light weight power house checks in at 0-60 in just 4.6 seconds.  Power comes courtesy of a 5 liter turbo charged engine, pumping horses into a 4-wheel drive transmission.  This turbo charged menace sticks to the ground with all 4 tires spinning, held together with a specially tuned Volvo suspension.

It’s just a one off concept car, but will it be enough to keep people interested in an other wise bland Volvo lineup?  Perhaps its just a peak at what engineers have in store for the up coming years.

2011 Audi R8 Released

2011 Audi R8

Official specs and pictures of the 2011 Audi R8 has been released.  Lighter and more powerful makes for a monstrous combination and this high performance sports car doesn’t disappoint.  We got a sneak peak at some Audi R8 spy pics awhile back, but the real thing is just as impressive and the Audi lovers should not be disappointed.

The new 2011 Audi R8 produces 560 horsepower, up from 525 from 2010 models.  To keep this agile beast on Weight Watchers most panels were manufactured of carbon fiber instead of aluminum.  Thanks to this change and other weight saving changes the 2011 R8 is an amazing 220 lbs lighter than previous offerings.

According to Audi the new 2011 R8 is capable of a 0-60 time of just 3.6 seconds.  Break neck acceleration and a top speed just shy of 200 mph makes this a toy worthy of any millionaires garage.  Pricing starts at just $256,000.

2011 Volkswagen Phaeton

2011 Phaeton

VW debuted the latest iteration of their Phaeton model luxury car and it’s truly a visual improvement.  Visitors to the Beijing Auto Show were lucky enough to lay eyes on the redesigned front end, accents, and new interior trim accents.

Performance wise the 2011 Volkswagen Phaeton will offer 2 different engine types, including a V6 Diesel engine capable of 240 horsepower and a V12 6.0 liter gasoline engine.  Unfortunately for the US market this newly revamped VW model will not be offered, the Phaeton was a failure in the US, mainly due to it’s high price tag and VW badging.  Most analysts felt that US consumers were not interested in spending $40,000 plus on a plain looking automobile.

Personally I love the new looks of the 2011 Phaeton and this may tempt enough buyers to increase it’s popularity in Europe and eventually make it’s way back to US shores.  The rear end looks sporty, with rectangular exhaust tips and although the front is missing the big mouth bumper it does look functional.  I can only imagine what the massive radiator for the 6 liter would look like hiding behind the front bumpers vents.

As for the interior, plenty of leather is on hand and the available trim makes it look just as luxury filled as any other competitors car on the market.  In my eyes the only short coming of the 2011 Phaeton is it’s profile resemblance to an older Ford Taurus.  There just isn’t anything from the side that hints at luxury or performance, no raked look, only a large cabin space.  Perhaps by the time the Phaeton makes it back to the US they will have fixed this lack luster design flaw.

Evolution Of The Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse has been around for quite some time, actually first manufactured in 1990 and was built under 3 different names.  The Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser were all the same with different brandings.  In addition to different labels we’ve also seen some great performance versions, even the first generation Eclipse had a turbo version, the Eclipse GS-T.

Here we are 18 years later and more than just the cosmetics have changed on this 4 cylinder, cult inducing, small size car.  Below is a stroll through memory lane with the Mitsubishi Eclipse and where it came from to where it’s going.

Check out more information about the changes the Mitsubishi Eclipse has gone through over the years at Wikipedia.
