2013 Mustang Sneak Peek

Ford Motor Company has announced that they are offering a special sneak peek at the 2013 Mustang via Google Hangouts.  If you are not interested being the first to see the advertising trailer for the new Mustang, then you will have to wait for the nationally televised ad, aired during the Daytona 500.  Google Hangout is a feature of Google+, which allows people to virtually hangout via webcams and chat windows.  In this case it would be like listening into a conference call where the commercial is aired to board members.

Interesting because the technology is new, not so interesting because you are going out of your way to see an advertisement.  Either way, Ford is claiming the commercial builds on the success of the ‘Customize Your Ride’ commercials, which in my opinion is junk.  I mean, it’s a selling point that you can get stickers on your Mustang from the factory?  It looks like Ford is advertising a premium vehicle the same way Scions are sold.

What can the Mustang Customizer allow you to do, besides tack on stickers?

Mustang Customizer allows users to:

  • Build the Mustang V6, GT, Boss 302 or GT500 of their dreams by choosing from custom colors, trims, wheels and decals. The site offers a printable parts list that can be taken to a dealer
  • Battle their Mustang against others on the Customizer Battle page
  • Share their results with their friends via Facebook

Mean Green Machine, Mercedes Environmental Campaign

Everyone is capitalizing on looking green, going green, or at the very least just trying not to dump their oil change down the drain.  Manufacturers know that consumers are taking into consideration their environmental impact when purchasing a car, so they intend to exploit desire.  Some just like throwing a green hue on their logo until they can come up with a nice fuel efficient car, Mercedes is going all out with an environmental awareness ad campaign.  Soon enough it’ll be in your face, Mercedes is committed to the green movement, with an ad premiere during the upcoming Academy Awards.

The Green advertisement will focus on the all new S400 Hybrid.  Hoping to attract familiar viewers, the ad will be voiced by Jon Hamm, a Golden Globe winner from the TV series Mad Men.  It’s called the ‘Tree of Innovation’ and it’s designed to instill a sense of guilt in fat wallet consumers.

On a positive note, it does highlight the fact that Mercedes has been committed to testing and developing energy efficient vehicles.  You don’t have to look far till you see the advancements they’ve made in clean diesel technology and now uber efficient hybrids.  “Engineering for a greener future”, is the hook, which most consumer will bite.
