Subaru Classic At SEMA

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Subaru Performance Tuning has prepared a custom Impreza WRX STi and a Legacy VIP concept specifically for the SEMA show.  The show, which starts today in Las Vegas, will be housing some of the most spectacular modified vehicles in the world, so companies must bring their A-Game.  Perhaps that's why Subaru is also debuting their WRX Trax car.

The Legacy VIP is a one-of-a-kind vehicle inspired by the VIP rides found on
the streets of Tokyo, Los Angeles and New York. It uniquely blends parts from
SPT and the Japanese domestic market (JDM) with custom features for the "full
VIP treatment." VIP is a style known for a clean, yet heavily reworked, luxury
theme with an emphasis on impossibly low ride height and huge, aggressively
styled wheels.

Pictures of the inside of the Subaru Legacy VIP can be found below, along with Subaru's special edition 2010 WRX STi.

2010 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Regular readers of The-Grayline.com know how much I ooze over the idea of a potent Mustang.  Lately Ford just seems to keep on delivering one awesome version of a Mustang over another.  Even though the SVT brand doesn't seem to be hanging around, we have been blessed with the Shelby GT500 and now, the 2010 Cobra Jet.  Fitting, considering Ford has aesthetically and internally redesigned the 2010, so let's see what's in store.

The 2010 Ford Cobra Jet Mustang can be seen by those lucky enough to attend the 2009 SEMA show in Las Vegas, which begins today.  The Cobra Jet has been specially outfitted in SEMA paint, complete with Cobra likeness down the side.  The pictures of the SEMA special Cobra Jet can be seen in the gallery below.

What sets the 2010 Cobra Jet apart from other 2010 Mustangs?  First of all it will come equipped with the first ever factory equipped Rev Limiter, which is a staple for low ET's.  Basically the Cobra Jet is a factory built race car, similar to the one Ford released on the 40th anniversary of the Cobra Jet in 2008.  Although consider it a much more track ready beast, complete with roll cage.

I've had trouble finding specific power numbers for the 2010 Cobra Jet, but suffice it to say, it won't matter to those buying.  All 50 produced have already been ordered by the dealers and sold to customers, sorry, no longer available.  But maybe, just maybe, you might have a friend of a friend that will give you a ride in one.  Until then, please feel free to slobber over the pictures below.

Honda CRZ Concept Car Pics

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Honda was showing off their latest in go-kart technology at the Toyota Motor Show with the all new CRZ concept.  Of course it's a hybrid and it's biggest selling points are efficiency, but Honda is touting it as a hybrid sport vehicle.  Performance and enough efficiency to keep the hippies at bay?

As you can see from the CR-Z pictures below, it's a concept car still and I'm sure the glass ceiling w0n't make it to production.  Honda claims that the new CR-Z will be available in the US market by late 2010.  Will this be available to compete with Chevy's Volt?

2010 Lexus RX 350 SUV

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Lexus, never ones to leave a product stagnant for long, have revamped and added some new tech to the cabin of the 2010 Lexus RX 350.  Some of the highlights include being able to dial out via voice command and other improvements to the user interface.  The cabin also includes the luxury cabin essentials that Lexus has become known for, like high quality paneling.

Some industry experts are upset that Lexus has yet to revamp their navigation system.  For some there are just far too many buttons to push to get where you are going.  This is a segment that should quickly be addressed, considering the inexpensive after market options for vehicles.

Lastly, the power train for the Lexus RX 350 has yet to be upgraded to the latest technologies.  It relies on aging tech that is not the most efficient on the market place.  And, in today's market efficiency and the greener claims you can make, the more vehicles you will undoubtedly sell.

But hey, if you are one that buys a vehicle based on it's cabin interface system then you will not go wrong with the 2010 Lexus RX.  The cabin controls are handled through the mouse like device picture below.

Can You Afford A Porsche?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Porsche has announced that an entry level Porsche 914 is a priority for 2010.  Although shelved some time ago, the 914 Boxster would be set at a price point that would make owning a Porsche easier than ever, although exact prices have yet to be disclosed.  Furthermore, it's not been announced if the 914 name will be used or some other poor man's Porsche name will be attached.

But this got me thinking, at what price would a Porsche have to be to be considered entry level?  A brand spanking new Porsche Boxster will run you around $60,000.  So, perhaps an entry level Porsche should be available for $40,000?

I'm fairly certain for that kind of money I'd rather own a GT500 or Corvette.  Again, in the realm of luxury, I'm not the target market.  Only those that have a hard-on for the Porsche name need apply here.  Much like a humongous house without any furniture, it's just another status symbol to park in the drive way.  IMHO

Maybe I'm not being exactly fair, the rendering above by Motor Trend is very sexy.  I just know that cars like the Porsche 944 did not age very well and I can't imagine a new model of budget Porsche would fair any better.

2010 Dodge Ram

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The veil has been lifted on the redesigned 2010 Dodge Ram Power Wagon.  Everything from the raked front grill and hood, to the pin striping screams pavement-eating-hippie-hater.  The v8 Hemi is more efficient than it's grandpa from years ago, but that doesn't' mean it will be winning any MPG awards.  Consider this, the 2010 Dodge Ram Power Wagon will be known as one of the most versatile 4x4's ever.

Do you believe the hype?

4WheelOffRoad.com got their hands on one early to do some testing for an upcoming issue.  According to their blog post on the 2010 Power Wagon, it's a worthy contender with lots of promise.  It's bigger, more powerful with 383 horsepower and 400 ft lb of torque, and equipped with a 12,000 lb winch.  Find out if it will walk away with the 4x4 Of The Year Title in the February issue of 4 Wheel Off Road Magazine.

Nissan Leaf Expects 20,000 Orders

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Nissan has announced some pretty lofty goals, including being the largest manufacturer in the US for electric cars.  The model to make it happen is the 2010 Nissan Leaf, an electric car marvel.  Nissan expects to receive 20,000 orders of the battery powered Leaf by the time it hits the show rooms next year.  I don't see how.

First of all, you are buying a very limited range vehicle, for around $30,000.  Personally, for that kind of money, I'd like to be able to drive wherever, whenever I want.  I don't want to wait around for a charge or risk not being able to find a suitable charging station while I'm out and about.  But of course, I'm not the target audience, those living in the big cities that don't have to worry about rural commutes.

Next, consider the Nissan dealership just might be pushing a $150 per month battery lease option.  Meaning, you buy the car, but lease the battery that powers the car.  This is done to help alleviate the concern of replacing a battery in the coming years, if there were a problem, or they don't have the shelf life they are counting on.

Too many if's and's or's and but's for me.  However, I wish them all the luck and the more competition Toyota has, the better it is for the consumers.  Check out the Nissan Leaf pics below.

2010 Ford Taurus

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Seems like 'All New' is the number one method used to increase sales in a recession, at least for automobile manufacturers like Ford.  The all new 2010 Taurus is no exception, marking yet another generation change for the popular sedan.  Ford is labeling it, "Americas Smartest Full Size Sedan."

Personally, I love it, everything about it.  The new redesign doesn't remind of the 4 door sedans elder and instead looks on par with the edgier luxury sedans on the market.  Also, it doesn't quite scream reworked 500, like the previous generation, rather an entire new concept for the Taurus.

Consider this, buyers will be able to put one of the 2010 Ford Taurus into their drive way for around $26,000.  A very attractive price point considering the complete revamping of the line and luxurious feel.

Caliber SRT4 Discontinued

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Forget your dreams about owning one of the smallest and fastest cars ever created by Dodge.  The 2010 Caliber SRT4 has been discontinued and will not be put back into production in the foreseeable future.

For all intents and purposes the boring line of Dodge Calibers has remained unchanged.  However, the 285hp turbo charged 4 cylinder will not be available as an option.

Yes, I can hear all 4 of you sighing and upset at your chances to own a Dodge Caliber SRT4, so here are some images of SRT4's that will never be.  Seems like it was just yesterday we were reporting on the upcoming 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT 4.

2010 Cadillac SRX PICS

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I'm sorry, I just don't agree with the greenies that the SUV will go the way of the DoDo Bird.  I think the SUV will be around, in some form, for a long time to come, because you can't haul kids to soccer practice in a glorified golf cart.  Apparently Cadillac agrees and has applied great focus to their upcoming 2010 Cadillac SRX.

Cadillac has directly targeted the Lexus SUV market with this addition to their lineup.  Most professional reviews of this Luxury Crossover declare this a clear winner for those looking to purchase a luxury SUV.  And to up the ante, Cadillac has announced the 2010 SRX will come with an optional Turbo Charged V6.  That means market competitors will have to worry about a growling 300hp beast in the woods.
