Test Drive The 2010 Toyota Tacoma

With winter right around the corner, dont you think you need a truck you can depend on? The 2010 Toyota Tacoma is just that truck. With a 4.0 liter DOHC V6 engine, 236 horsepower, 266 lb. ft. of torque, and a stylish rugged design, you can guarantee old man winter wont be slowing you down this year.

This truck has numerous safety features that greatly enhance drivability and safety on slippery winter roads. Standard safety features on the 2010 Tacoma include side curtain and front seat-mounted side airbags, Vehicle Skid Control (VHC) which identifies loss of traction and compensates power delivered to each wheel to maintain directional stability, Traction Control which uses brake and throttle control to deliver power to the wheels with most traction, a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution to optimize the amount of brake force applied to each wheel, and Brake Assist to assist the driver in the event of an emergency stop.

Among the large list of available features on the 2010 Tacoma you can choose from an access cab, double cab, 4×2 or 4×4, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) off-road package, TRD sport package, V6 or four-cylinder engine, SR5 power package, and 400 watt (115 Volt) cargo bed power outlet. Toyotas have long been known for being the most high-quality, dependable cars and trucks on the market, and the 2010 Tacoma is no different. It is also comforting to know in these uncertain economic times that when you purchase a Toyota vehicle, you are buying a brand with better resale than most cars on the market.

Who Says Electric Has To Be Dull?

At the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, FIAT showed a mysterious concept car called the “FIAT 500 BEV”. Journalists were told this was a working title for the little car on display and the BEV suffix stood for Battery Electric Vehicle. There wasn’t much data released at the show so it appears that FIAT simply wanted to make the statement that “they too” were investing in the electric car concept. Journalists noted that electric drivetrain part was fantastic but the car’s utilitarian look needed a little help.

Well, fast forward two years and things have changed a little. Now officially named the Fiat 500E, Fiat has jazzed things up a little and the first FIAT 500Es will be shown to the public at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show starting Nov. 30, 2012. Pictured below in striking orange decor, the first 500Es will be available first in California. We visited our Arrigo Palm Beach FIAT dealer and they suggested that later in 2013 that they may be released to other FIAT dealers.

As far as technology details are concerned, we are told that Chrysler technology is behind the 500E’s electric running gear. This makes perfect sense as it would seem a natural to install an all-electric drivetrain into the FIAT 500 rather than a larger car, say a Dodge Dart. Not only does the FIAT 500 present a smaller, much lighter form factor, having an electric FIAT would frankly be good for FIAT US public relations.

Pricing has yet to be determined on the 500E but competitive forces would likely put in the $30K range as this would be less than the other electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf (retail $36,050), Ford Focus Electric (retail $39,900), and the Chevy Volt (retail $39,145). As previously stated, we should all know quite a bit more about the 500E as soon as the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show opens.

Hyundai Sales Making News

October was a good month, Fall arrived, leaves started falling, and Hyundai proudly reported an increase in sales of almost 40%.  Worthy reason to celebrate, but not for Hyundai, who plans on increasing all of 2011 sales by at least 14%.  We’re talking a massive increase projection, for an entire year!

So how did Hyundai increase sales successfully?  Reportedly the 2011 Sonata is what drove sales figures higher and made car salesmen happy on pay day.

Hyundai hopes to sell 3.8 million cars in 2011, an amazing figure for the 5th largest car maker in the world.  Obviously the Sonata sedan will help, but what about Hyundai’s other line up of vehicles and there latest jump into the luxury market with the Hyundai Equus?

No doubt it will take a diverse line up of vehicles, that Hyundai has committed themselves to providing.  Whether it’s small fries like the Accent or the performance of the Genesis, Hyundai hopes to have you covered.  Perhaps we’ll take a look at their concept cars in a future post as well, some very exciting things happening, like the Veloster.

Toyota Recall Woes…Again

It’s that time again, it almost seems weekly, where we announce another Toyota recall.  This time, the affected vehicles are 1.3 million Corolla and Matrix model cars.  The reason for the recall, stalling.  Stalling at any speed is the reason for the latest bout of recalls facing Toyota and tarnishing their already less than perfect public image as a car company that cares.

[ad#Google Adsense]Even worse is how the latest Toyota recall even affects some of GM’s model cars, which were designed as a joint venture with Toyota.  Specifically, there have been over 200,000 Vibes recalled.  This long list of problems affecting small and subcompacts is getting ridiculous and as I foretold a few years ago, safety is becoming a major issue.  Smaller, lighter, and greener does not always mean safer and that’s what matters at the end of the day.

So, as a recap of all the recent Toyota recalls this year:

  • 412,000 cars recalled for steering problems
  • 1.3 million cars recalled for stalling problems
  • 2.3 million cars recalled for gas pedal malfunctions

In addition, Toyota has faced massive fines for their lack of action on potential problems.  Lastly, the lawsuits have just begun, as more and more issues of the millions of vehicles start coming home to roost.  As of this posting there are already 200 lawsuits pending against Toyota and the year isn’t close to being over yet.

Has a Toyota recall affected you yet?

2010 NISMO 370Z

The 2010 Nissan 370Z, tuned by NISMO, was built with muscle and fueled by adrenaline.  A bit over the top, but as you can imagine, this car hauls and shows just how far NISMO can take Nissan sports cars.  Thanks to their after market parts and accessories, NISMO pushed the 2010 370Z to just over 350 horsepower and over 260 lb ft of torque.

Highlights of the NISMO package on the 2010 Z:

  • NISMO Dual Exhuast
  • Sport Brakes
  • Tuned NISMO Suspension
  • NISMO Strut Tower Brace
  • NISMO Body Design
  • 19″ Forged Aluminum Alloy Wheels
  • Special NISMO Interior Trim

The NISMO 370Z is the highest end 370Z you can purchase, above the standard and 370Z Touring edition.  Other than performance, it’s easy to see the difference between the 370Z models.  The NISMO edition just looks racy, with wide body, big spoiler, and aggressive stance.  It takes the already sporty 370Z and adds a whole new level, the likes of which look right at home on any race track.

Fans of Nissan aren’t the only ones impressed with the 2010 370Z.  Thanks to rigorous research and development, the 2010 370Z has won some of the highest automotive awards available.  For 2010 the 370Z received Best Resale Value by Kelly Blue Book, Best Buy Award by Consumers Digest, and Best of What’s New by Popular Science.
