General Motors is recalling about 35,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from the 2008 and 2009 model years to correct two separate defects.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains that, in some G8s, "The brake pedal position switch may have been incorrectly programmed. With this condition, the brake lamps may be continually illuminated," leaving drivers behind a G8 unable to tell when the car is actually braking. Also, G8s equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system may have a separate problem. The notice explains, "Certain vehicles may have incorrect values programmed into the tire pressure monitoring system," meaning the system might failed to warn of an under inflated tire.

Pontiac dealers will correct both defects free of charge. Dealers will begin contacting owners in early June, but those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668.

Hyundai is recalling about 91,000 Sonata sedans from model years 2002 and 2003 equipped with chrome door handles to correct a safety defect.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains, "Repeated use of the interior door handle may cause wear of the chrome plate ... The worn chrome plating on the upper edge of the handle may result in a crack or separation between the chrome plating on the inboard and outboard surfaces of the handle, which may form a sharp edge. This may inflict laceration injuries to anyone using the door handle."

Hyundai dealers will repair the handles free of charge. Sonata owners should receive a mailing announcing the recall in June, but those who wish to make early repair arrangements may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

Basically, oooouuuucccchhh.

Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it will recall almost 1.3 million vehicles world-wide due to a defect that could cause a foam pad near the seat belt to ignite during collisions.

The Japanese auto maker said the recall includes 134,900 model-year 2006 and 2007 Yaris subcompacts that were sold in the U.S.

Bad news for the little car as they had high hopes for the Yaris being released in the US. Originally it was being billed as one of the safest little cars to drive on the road...but recalls say otherwise.

Mitsubishi Motors, one of Japan's major car producers, will recall 9,390 vehicles in China from March 7 for brake system problems, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) announced Friday.

The problematic vehicles include 9,108 Outlander EX models produced in the period from Nov. 7, 2007 to Dec. 5, 2008, and 282 Lancer EX vehicles produced from Oct. 3, 2008 to Nov. 20, 2008.

The report said the brake vacuum booster of the cars could fail to function because of inside valve defects, posing a potential danger.

The GAQSIQ said Mitsubishi vehicle owners could have their cars examined and repaired free of charge at the company's service centers across the country.

The Japanese auto-maker recalled 12,985 vehicles last December, including 6,090 Grandis and 6,895 Outlander EX models, imported to China as the brake lights had problems because of a short circuit in the switch.
