Cadillac will put out a special edition of its 2014 Cadillac ELR in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. The two companies are collaborating for the holiday season. This edition has a hefty price tag – coming in at $89,500. The base model lists for $75,000. The extra $14,500 gets the buyer some exclusive advantages including: a white diamond paint job, jet black or cashmere interior, upgraded and professionally installed 240 volt charging station, and Cadillac Concierge service. The latter includes roadside assistance, battery care and charging support, and informational contact. Cadillac assures customers that this service is given by representatives “trained in white-glove customer care.”
Another manifestation of the partnership is the following: At the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store near Rockefeller Center in New York City, there will be a window display entitled “Frozen Escalade.” This features a 2015 Cadillac Escalade (Cadillac’s other big hybrid) that appears to be embedded in ice. The fully functional LED running lamps on the car “appear embedded and breaking through a wall of ice.”
For anyone who isn’t familiar with the ELR, our local Hagerstown Hoffman Cadillac dealership kindly gave us an overview of this model. It is a two door plug in hybrid sporte coupe, and it is Caddy’s latest and most serious and concerted plug-in hybrid venture. Unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the buzz about this car seems to be all about its price. The $75,000 base price tag has many people’s heads reeeling. The pairing of the vehicle was Saks Fifth Avenue ritziness almost seems to flaunt the issue – to fan the flames that are already rising in the blood of both Cadillac and green vehicle fans. Perhaps that is, in a sense, Cadillac’s intention. They are leaving no doubt in the public’s mind that these are not just environmentally responsible, but also luxury vehicles.
Engineering wise, the ELR shares many characteristics of its basic architecture with the Chevy Volt. It has the same 1.4-liter range-extending gasoline engine and an electric drive motor that runs off a 15.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that cranks out 295 foot pounds of torque. The total system output is 207 horsepower and Cadillac expects that the total hybrid range to come in over 300 miles.
Stylistically, the car has style and muscle, with 20 inch wheels, a roofline that seems to communicate smoothness and speed, and in a general a very successful blend of sportiness and classy elegance. Add to this its economic and environmental compatibility, and you have a vehicle some just may end up feeling is worthy the big sticker amount.

We got to personally check out the ATS thanks to the staff at the Williamson Cadillac dealership, just down the road from us in Miami. What we found when stepping inside the cabin of this Cadillac is that without a doubt it stays true to the normal Cadillac level of luxury, and new technological and convenience features make it all that better. Cabin features include engine oil indicator, Bluetooth and phone connectivity for hands free calling and audio, steering wheel mounted controls for audio, phone, and cruise control, one year of Directions and Connections via OnStar, and a theft deterrent system with engine immobilizer. There are various technological features for the car as well, adding to its entertainment value. The ATS has a 5.7 inch color display information center, three month trial of Sirius XM, seven speaker premium Bose stereo system with Am, FM, and XM as well as USB, SD card, and auxiliary audio ports. Other available features include dual zone automatic climate control and power doors and locks.
Nothing is more important to a driver than the safety of their vehicle and the ATS is no exception. There are driver and front passenger dual stage, knee and side, front and rear head curtain airbags, OnStar vehicle diagnostics, three-point safety belts for all driving and passenger positions, trunk emergency release handle, passenger sensing system, LATCH system, rear child security door locks, daytime running headlights, StabiliTrak stability enhancement, and all speed traction control. Even as a sedan, safety in the ATS is not overlooked for even a moment.
Where many cars fail to give owners a luxury and safety in one reliable vehicle, Cadillac has done just that in the new 2013 Cadillac ATS with an advanced engine set up and world-class maneuverability. With an ATS, life will no longer have limits.
Cadillac has been showing off their latest concept design of the large luxury car the XTS model. According to Cadillac the XTS will replace their current DTS and STS models. The plan is to combine the sportiness of the STS with more room and luxury, a potent combination.
Like other manufacturers Cadillac is hoping to tap into the hybrid market, meaning the XTS will most likely release with a hybrid option. Current tests with the concept model include a hybrid motor paired with a V6, producing over 350 horsepower. The technology Cadillac is planning on using will use Lithium batteries, which will provide enough power for an all-electric mode, doubling fuel economy.

I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with the greenies that the SUV will go the way of the DoDo Bird. I think the SUV will be around, in some form, for a long time to come, because you can’t haul kids to soccer practice in a glorified golf cart. Apparently Cadillac agrees and has applied great focus to their upcoming 2010 Cadillac SRX.
Cadillac has directly targeted the Lexus SUV market with this addition to their lineup. Most professional reviews of this Luxury Crossover declare this a clear winner for those looking to purchase a luxury SUV. And to up the ante, Cadillac has announced the 2010 SRX will come with an optional Turbo Charged V6. That means market competitors will have to worry about a growling 300hp beast in the woods.
