BMW has released some information on the elusive M3 saw running around the Nurburgring a few weeks ago. The factory built race car is truly an inspiration for corner carving light weight goodness. But perhaps BMW has gone too far? nah!

Not only is this new M3 lighter, thanks to an ample amount of metal for carbon fiber swapping, it's also more powerful. Think about an ultra light car packed with a 4.4 liter v8, producing over 400 horsepower. This deadly combination of power to weight ratio, 19 inch rims, and adjustable suspension makes for an improved lap time BMW can be proud of.

Much like privately built race cars, this BMW factory flyer also includes many other upgrades over the typical dealer M3. Not including high priced rubbers, over sized disc brakes, and stripped down amenities. All of this can be yours, special ordered from BMW, for $172,500. I just don't think this includes destination charges and any other kind of nickel and diming.

Tired of either dominating or losing out on a niche? Well, if you are BMW then you simply create your own niche and give it a 3 letter acronym. The Concept 5 from BMW is not an SUV or SAV, it's a PAS, otherwise known as Progressive Activity Sedan. A little too close to the POS moniker if you ask me.

“This car is designed less for a specific market, but more for a customer who needs all the utility of an SUV, minivan or wagon, but would not want the association with those types of vehicles,” he said.

This comment, by BMW's Product Manager, seems a little less confident and a more like settling for the consumer. At any rate, rest assured the buyer will look like a douche bag whether he is going camping, picking up kids from soccer, or grabbing groceries on the way home from the board meeting.

If the idea of a confused car, being peddled as a new niche, sounds tantalizing to you, then plan on plunking down $60-70k when released. Yes, although it is being billed as a concept, BMW claims they will be producing this monstrosity. Yea.

BMW announced yesterday that there will be a price incrase on their 750i and 750li model cars. From 08 to 09 there will be a $3,500 price in crease on their 750i and $4,300 price increase on their 750li models. In a time when most auto manufacturers are posting lost sales and driving prices down, BMW says they saw a 15.3 percent increase in sales since 07, confident their increase won't hurt sales.

It's not surprising that luxury vehicles will be going up in price, since their sales are not nearly effected as much as standard vehicles. Standard vehicles being bought and sold by common Americans start feeling the pinch anytime the economy takes a dip, but luxury vehicles have a history of remaining unchanged during tough times. One of the oldest examples of constant sales in automobiles is of the Chevy Corvette. Even during tough times in US history, Corvette sales remained unchanged. A different class of people buying a different class of cars...the minority.

Meanwhile in the real world, I'll keep my 97 F150 chugging along.

BMW made one of the fastest race cars of it's time, the BMW 328 was advanced for the late 1930's. During this time the BMW 328 utilized features unheard of, like tubular frame, and hemispherical combustion engine. Because of the advancements of it's time the BMW 328 was elected in the top 25 finalists for Car of the Century.

Thanks to the BMW 328 race car's success BMW ressurrected the 328 name in 1990 with the BMW328i model car. Although not a racecar by any means, BMW continued it's reputation of advancements and quality. The latest BMW 328i model comes packed with 230 horsepower from a 6 cylinder engine and gets almost 30 miles per gallon.

Every engine is different, even if it's the same model, same size, etc...every engine will act and react a little differently. Generally these differences can be chocked up to how the engine was broke in, during it's most important first 500 miles or even be effected by who was working on the assyembly line the day it was made. Point being, fuel economy can change from vehicle to vehicle with no obvious explanation, there are just differences. So, instead of hype, Market Watch, turned to it's readers to choose which vehicles are the most fuel efficient.

It may surprise you, but Ford makes the list, along with luxury brand economy BMW. Ford and BMW were arrived at being the most fuel efficient based on a 6 month long study.

Starting March 1, 2008 and ending August 31, 2008, Expert System examined reader comments and messages on the Web sites: Automotive.com, CarandDriver.com, Carforum.com, and Carspace.com. Only readers' opinions related to fuel efficiency were analyzed, not manufacturers' specifications for the vehicles. The luxury vehicles with the highest ratings of fuel efficiency, ranging from the highest score on, are: BMW, Lexus, Acura, Jeep, and Infiniti. The non-luxury vehicles with the highest ratings are: Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Chevrolet, and Honda. The auto brands were classified based on their sales prices.

It's believed that the information arrived from the semantic software, based on information from users, is the most honest feedback a potential buyer could find. Completely unbiased, the information collected offers insight to what vehicle owners really feel about their luxury and non-luxury cars. So, if you are feeling the pressure at the pump, doing your research can eliviate some of that stress in the next automotive purchase you make. Congratulations Ford and BMW!

BMW is proving once again it hang with the best of super car manufacturers by releasing an all new BMW M1 Super Car.

As for the engine, CAR says anything in the BMW lineup will fit but the most likely candidate is a 3.0-liter straight six with three turbos and about 450 horsepower. Auto Express will come with either the six or the 4.0-liter V8 from the M3. That would give it about 400 horsepower. Whatever it gets, look for a 0-to-60 time of around 4 seconds and a top speed just north of 200.

Seems a little mild for a mid engine super car, but whom am I to judge? Good thing this car isn't even being built yet and you could actually not see a working BMW M1 until as late as 2013. Super rich, please start holding your breath now and put me in your Will. Below is just a shell, all we have to wet our whistle until BMW makes an official announcement.

Is the latest idea out of the big heads at BMW to target younger buyers? Surely not, at least in todays economy, do younger people really have enough money to purchase a new car...let alone a beamer? It looks like the answer to both questions is a resounding Yes and Yes. Maybe I've made some poor life choices(insert career choices), but I did not have the cash to pony up to buy a BMW when I was younger.

Getting back to when I was younger, I guess it all depends on which side of the hill you are judging age from, but the new target audience is 30-40 years old. Apparently, this is YOUNG! BMW will be marketing a new 1-Series Coupe to this age demographic and of course men will be the primary targets. The trim on this sporty sedan tells the tale of an early mid life crisis.

According to BMW the 1-Series will be available on May 20 and come with two different engine packages. The first is a naturally aspirated 3.0 V6 and the second is a Twin Turbo version of the 3.0. Whoa, that will damn near blow the depends off of grandpa. At last, men going bald at the age of 35 and making more money than you can shake a stick at will have a car made just for them.

It's sleek, sharp looking, powerful, I'm sure it will sell well to the younger crowd that can afford it.
