V6 Power Wars

[ad#Google Adsense]By now I’m sure you’ve heard that the 2011 Mustang V6 is supposed to pop out a whopping 305 horsepower, which makes Camaro v6 owners testees shrink a little.  Not to mention, this hulking V6 is the first production car in the world to produce over 300 horsepower while simultaneously getting better than 30 miles per gallon.  It’s insane, it’s like having vegetables that taste like cake and it’s making Chevy think twice about what type of numbers they should be shooting for in their next V6 Camaro.

The power struggle amongst the little (smaller) engines that could is a hot topic for reports prying at Chevrolet execs.  In a recent interview, Chevy marketing manager was asked if the Camaro would be able to live up to Ford’s horsepower challenges.  According to him we’ll find out in a few weeks when the 2011 Camaro figures actually hit the press.  I’m suspecting this was said with a wink and may have been his only way out of the room without looking like a wussy man.

Truth be told however both the 2010 Camaro V6 and 2011 Mustang V6 are strong contenders, even compared with just a few years ago.  The 2010 Camaro V6 is producing 300 horsepower and 273 ft lb of torque, compared to the Mustang V6 at 305 horsepower and 280 ft lb of torque.  Not a huge difference, maybe not even one you’ll feel in the seat of your pants, but the fuel efficiency is higher in the V6 Mustang, which might make you feel it in your wallet.

How would you have reacted 10 years ago if I told you Ford was going to produce a V6 Mustang that produced more horsepower than the V8 GT’s and V8 Cobras?  I would have peed a little laughing so hard.
