09 Subaru WRX

Subaru has plans of ‘boosting’ the Subaru WRX Impreza’s power output for their 2009 model year.  A new buyer can expect stock gains of up to 41 horsepower over the 08 WRX model, which will place the horsepower at around 265.  This kind of power numbers will make the WRX just under it’s STi brethren.

As usual, all wheel drive is standard on the 09 Subaru WRX.  In addition, the same 2.5 liter boxer engine will also be used, making this one sexy four door.  The additional power is just one of the changes coming in 2009 to the WRX, there will also be a number of cosmetic differences as well.  The one I’m looking most too is the addition of Gun Metal Gray rims, as seen in the picture below.

  1. I own this new 09 wrx. and i just can say that is amaaaazzzing its a very luxury but very very sport car. i own it on like light gray color but with the gun metal gray wheels it just look amazing. i ate a bmw 745 model, a nissan 350z and a mustang GT this is a racing machine. and i choose this instead the sti because i didnt like the hatcback version this 4door looks like more luxury and also ghost car. i mean you dont spect this car could fly like a rocket. and it does, while it looks like an all luxury car. a friend of mine thout it was a bmw because he saw the side at a far distance but it is a subaru impreza wrx. good luck.

  2. This thing is so repulsive. Subaru messed up last year with the introof the hatchback and the euro look. WRX fans have always loved the rugged go anywhere do anything look of the car. I know that Subaru is just looking to fit into a winning mold in the WRC platform. But give us a good looking car if you will. I own an 02 WRX in blue. I love the car. It’s fast and I feel like it’s a guys car, not a sueped up VW Golf. This new model looks like a KIA or a Saturn. I hate it!

  3. Really, you think it looks like a Saturn? Whoa, now that is an insult.

  4. Yeah! I definately agree with Justin’s comments about the newer WRX’s he knows his stuff too. I also own a 2002 WRX and I wouldn’t trade it for no other car because it is the best all around car ever made in my opinion(especially with custom chrome wheels on it). The interior is sweet and it even came with a MoMo steering wheel. Once my engine is done for or transmission I will just replace both and keep my 2002 forever and keep customizing it. I understand the direction Subaru is taking. They want to design WRX’s for males and females young and old now rather than for younger male adults. That car used to be the most popular car for the younger males, but now people are starting to lose interest in the newer WRX’s. I am so glad I bought one in 2002 because it will eventually be an classic due to the fact that the other models are so ugly. Subaru doesn’t realize young kids usually can’t afford WRX’s so they soup up cheap Honda’s or VW hatchbacks so they can go fast. Believe me they would much rather have a WRX, but I may have to retract my statement unless they build WRX’s the way the used to be. WRX rally drivers might like the performance of the newer ones because they are lighter, but they probably hate the way the newer ones look. Overall, if Subaru keeps making fugly WRX’s, it will deface the value of the cool looking ones and then EVO’s will be more dominate. Take Porshe for example, they haven’t really made to many drastic changes to their models over the years because they know what would happen it they did. There would be too many complaints if they did. The 2009 WRX isn’t that bad looking except for the hood scoop and the headlights. If anything the hood scoops should keep getting bigger and badder looking and the praying mantis headlights should never have been changed. One last thing. I was upset when the STI came out because it is way overpriced and Subaru tried to trick those who don’t really know to much about regular WRX’s. Alls you have to is buy a WRX and put about 1,500 to 2,000 dollars into it to make it just as good if not better than a STI. I’m sorry but I would rather have fun picking out my own performance parts from vendors I really like than having Subaru stock parts. And why doesn’t Subaru try putting roof scoops on new WRX models to give it that genuine rally car look? A roof scoop and a hood scoop make a WRX look just as attrative if not more than a Ferrari in my opion!

  5. Did you just say custom chrome wheels???? on a Subaru??? now that is an insult! please tell me you are joking?

  6. Yeah Katie! I said custom chrome wheels on a Subaru WRX, not on an Outback,Forrester or a Legacy! You obviously know nothing about style or cars. You strike me as a typical girl who would probably like to see chrome wheels on a Benz or a Beemer. You need to stop watching the Hills on MTV or reruns of the Real Housewives of Orange County. You see stock wheels are perfect for driving on back country dirt roads as well as racing since they are lighter than most chrome wheels, but they look cheap on a WRX. If you park a WRX with stock wheels next to a WRX with chrome wheels you will see what I mean. I have owned both so I know what I am talking about. I have lived in South Florida as well as Southern California and I have pulled up next to Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Masaratis in which I received numerous compliments. When I had the ugly stock wheels I never received any feedback. I don’t know if you like or dislike Subaru WRXs overall, but if you dislike them it’s probably because they are not in the same price range as Benz or a Beemer. You probably don’t realize this but in England and Australia WRXs go for about $40,000. That proves they are built just as good if not better then their competitors. I hope other people who are into rally type cars read this because they will laugh at you when they do. In conclusion yuppies, young girls who base cars on the dollar and labeling factor, trust fund babies, and old geezers are into Beemers(disregarding the M3) and Benzs. An educated and cool driver will definately want to own a WRX and with chrome wheels. Please send a reply! I can go on and on because it is fun to prove somebody wrong. P.S I hope you don’t actually own a WRX since it is a definately a mans car(well at least the earlier models were). If you happen to own one you should trade it in and buy a VW Bug or Mini Cooper.

  7. The new body style did set me back when it came out. When they spoke of the new body style coming out, I expected something much more rugged; more power. I suppose its a business decision, trying to tap into the bigger market. I’m sure the gains have outweighed the loss of the true fans as I’ve seen far more on the road today. Even still, it looks far too classy and puny now to be a rally car. It just looks like another neutered import now.

  8. Matt hate to tell u but most people who actually knows anything about cars wat so ever think chrome wheels on a wrx is plain stupid and ugly. lol I have mates which have wrx evo skylines….. and whenever we see one of them with chrome wheels we just laugh. Maybe little boys, or ppl who havent seen a chrome wheel might like em but hell never on a wrx. So yeh Katies right u GOTTA BE JOKING.

  9. Agreed, heavy chrome wheels just don’t cut it on a rally inspired car. It’s kind of like saying deep dish rear rims on a front wheel drive car looks good. However, to each their own, chances are those with chrome rims on a WRX would not be driving the car to it’s fullest ability anyways, so would never realize the difference.

  10. I third that… The whole point for buying the WRX model over the standard 2.5 model is for the performance, by puting a heavy chrome wheel on any car you’re hurting the performance. Maybe where you’re from in south florida chrome wheels on fast vehicles is the norm -like all the busa’s with rims a swing arm extension kits- but for the normal people who actualy drive their performance cars how they are meant to be driven, they would never consider adding 10 pounds per wheel for some bling. Bling for sports car guys is a high dollar super light racing wheel, and if an on-looker doesn’t know what you have, who cares.

  11. I don’t see what all the fuss about the styling is. It doesn’t look good in pictures but when you see them on the road they catch your eye. Plus with all this new power it will be like 01-02 all over again. I’m more worried about Subaru keeping the price around 25K than how it looks.
