Domestic Safety Overseas

Safety Training by The Big 3It looks like Chevy, GMC, and Ford are joining forces to help teach their overseas suppliers how to create a working environment that is safer, healthier, and apparently legal. According to the Freep, the week long training vacation will begin sometime mid 2007.

“The single most important resource at any of our member companies is people,”
J. Scot Sharland, the action group’s executive director, said in the statement. “Given the tremendous growth of North American investment in the developing Chinese automotive supply chain, it is imperative that these companies are cognizant of local labor laws and fundamentally understand that Ford, GM and DaimlerChrysler expect 100% compliance.”

Not only will the big 3 be over in China making sure their suppliers are being taken care of, but they also have plans to do similar training in Mexico. Operating in a world market means raising standards everywhere and this is a good step towards such a commitment.
